The Story
The Fountain of Faith is massive. It sits in a large courtyard surrounded by memorials at the National Memorial Cemetery.
Carl Milles sculpted 37 figures. Each figure represents someone Milles knew before they died.
It's his vision of heaven on earth.
There is a boy who died rescuing a bird. A family lost in a car accident. A wise old man from France, siblings connecting in the afterlife, and mothers reunited with their children.
This last one is especially personal—Milles lost his mother when he was just four.
Dedicated in 1952, The Fountain of Faith is considered Milles's masterwork, drawing a crowd of 25,000 people at its unveiling.
In these sculptures, Carl Milles, has captured the warmth and tenderness, the joy and love in all human relationships.
The warmth, tenderness, joy, and strength of supreme love]
The Fountain of Faith allows us to see that we do not walk alone and that we have a part in a bigger picture.
