The Story
We're starting on the Arlington section of the W&OD trail today. The full trail is paved and stretches 45 miles between Purcellville and Shirlington. After that, we'll transfer to the 4-mile run trail until we reach the Potomac River.
The start is suburban with lots of trees and parks. It gets more built up as we continue.
Barcroft Park is right off the trail. There are sports and windy wooded paths.
The W&OD runs parallel to the 4-mile run trail for many miles. But the W&OD ends around here. We'll continue to fall the stream also known as 4-mile run
The stream feeds into the Potomac River and divides Potomac Yard and Crystal City.
There are lots of bridges and overpasses. I really like watching the landscape change. The trail ends soon after passing the water treatment plant.
The fish markers tells us where at the water treatment plant, and soon at the end of the trail.
